Campervans, motorhomes and caravans

Private campervans and motorhomes at 3,500kg GVM or less are light vehicles, so the same staged WoF frequency rules apply as for other light vehicles.

Light rental campervans and motorhomes at 3,500kg GVM or less use CoF A. Their inspection frequency changes from six-monthly to annual from 1 November 2026.

Qualifying private heavy motorhomes over 3,500kg GVM moved from six-monthly to annual CoF inspections on 1 September 2025. To qualify, the vehicle must primarily be a mobile dwelling with a sleeping berth, cooking facilities and a permanently fixed toilet, and it must not be used to carry passengers for hire or reward or be operated under a transport service licence.

Caravans and other light trailers at 3,500kg or less are included in the light-vehicle WoF changes. Heavy trailers and heavy rental/commercial motorhomes can have different CoF requirements and are outside this checker.

What else changes on 1 November?

From 1 November 2026, WoF and CoF A inspections will also check that no warning or malfunction indicators are showing for fitted Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that assist with steering or vehicle movement.

This includes systems such as Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Lane Keep Assist. If a relevant warning or malfunction indicator is showing, it can affect the inspection result.

The infringement fee for operating a vehicle with a WoF expired by more than two months also increases from $200 to $350 from 1 November 2026.
