How the calculation works

The calculator estimates the number of fence sections from your usable fence length and chosen maximum post spacing. Gate opening width is removed from the paling/rail run, while gate posts are added separately.

Posts: estimated line posts + two gate posts per gate + any additional posts you enter.
Rails: net fence length × rails per section, then waste is added and converted to your selected stock length.
Palings: net fence length divided by paling width + gap, then waste is added.
Concrete: cylindrical hole volume × estimated posts, plus your concrete allowance.

For irregular layouts, corners and separate runs, use the additional-post field to fine-tune the estimate.
